Väderstad Launches the New Tempo T Planter and FH 2200 Front Hopper

Swedish manufacturer Väderstad is expanding its precision planting machinery range with the updated Tempo T planter in 6- and 7-row configurations, along with the FH 2200 front hopper for mineral fertilizer application. For the market, this is not merely another addition to the product line, but a clear example of how a modern precision planter is gradually becoming a high-performance agronomic platform - with flexible row spacing adjustment, electronic seed control, sectional management, and adaptation to different crops.

The main idea behind the Tempo T is to combine high working speed with accurate seed placement. For farms growing maize, sunflower, soybean, rapeseed, sugar beet, or other crops, this has practical importance: one machine can perform a wider range of tasks, reducing the need for separate planters for each crop.

Telescopic Frame as the Basis of Versatility

The key technical element of the Tempo T is its telescopic frame. It allows the machine’s working configuration to be quickly adjusted for different crops and technological schemes. In the 6-row version, the planter can operate with various row spacing options, including 450, 500, 600, 700, 750 mm and other configurations depending on the setup. In the 7-row version, the manufacturer’s official technical specification lists row spacing of 500, 550 and 600 mm.

This approach is important not only from a mechanical point of view, but also from the perspective of machine-use economics. If a planter can quickly switch from one crop to another, it works longer during the season and pays for itself more efficiently. For a farm, this means a lower machinery cost per hectare and fewer downtimes during the critical spring sowing period.

A separate advantage of the Tempo T is its mounted design. The machine is coupled via the tractor’s three-point linkage, which improves maneuverability on headlands and simplifies transport between fields. For many farms, this is no less important than field productivity, because the real efficiency of a planter is determined not only by sowing speed, but also by the time spent on transport, adjustment, filling, and maintenance.

Tempo T: Precision at Speed

The Tempo concept from Väderstad is built around controlled seed transport. In traditional planters, after the seed leaves the metering unit, it often moves downward under gravity, and as speed increases, the risk of deviations, skips, or doubles also increases. Tempo uses PowerShoot technology, where an air stream helps control the seed along its entire path to the seed furrow.

That is why the manufacturer emphasizes not only high working speed, but also the preservation of accuracy in three dimensions: seed-to-seed spacing within the row, stable placement depth, and precise row shut-off at field edges or wedge-shaped sections. According to official data, the recommended working speed of the Tempo T is 10-17 km/h.

For agronomy, this is critical. Uniform emergence depends on how evenly each plant starts its development in the field. If seeds are placed at different depths or have uneven spacing within the row, competition between plants begins from the earliest growth stages. In high-yield crops, especially maize and sunflower, such deviations directly affect yield potential.

Importantly, the Tempo T can be equipped with fertilizer application equipment. As an option, a 1200-litre hopper mounted directly on the planter is available, along with fertilizer disc coulters. This solution is aimed at farms that want to combine precision planting with localized nutrient placement in a single pass.

New Generation of the Row Unit

The updated Tempo T is connected with the broader technological modernization of the Tempo family. Väderstad has previously introduced a new generation of row unit for Tempo and Proceed. In this design, the manufacturer focused on improved accuracy, easier crop changes, updated electronics, improved service ergonomics, and the possibility of expanding control functions from the cab.

Among the important changes are easier seed tube replacement, updated hoppers, modernized metering units, and a more intuitive overall design. For farms, this means less time spent on reconfiguration and service operations. During the season, when every hour matters, the speed of switching between crops or seed rates often becomes just as important as the machine’s rated field productivity.

Another direction of development is electronic control of individual working units. Each Tempo row unit has its own individual electric drive, allowing each row to be controlled separately. This enables row-by-row shut-off, work with prescription maps, more accurate input application, and reduced overlaps.

FH 2200: Front Hopper for Productive Fertilizer Application

Together with the Tempo T, the FH 2200 front hopper also draws attention. Its main task is to provide the planter with a sufficient fertilizer reserve and stable metering during high-speed operation. The official hopper capacity is 2200 litres, and metering is performed by the Fenix III system.

Front-mounted hopper placement has several practical advantages. First, it helps distribute the unit’s weight between the front and rear of the tractor. Second, it relieves the planter frame from excessive load. Third, when properly integrated, it improves the overall balance of the planting combination.

The FH 2200 has a sloping front design, which improves visibility from the cab. A wide filling opening and an integrated step simplify loading. For an intensive sowing campaign, such details have real value, as reducing downtime during filling directly affects daily productivity.

The Fenix III system is designed for high application rates and stable material flow. Together with a powerful hydraulic fan, it ensures uniform fertilizer transport even at high working speeds. For precision farming, this is important because fertilizer must reach each section on time, without delays or uneven distribution.

Importance for Farms

The introduction of the updated Tempo T and the development of the FH 2200 front hopper clearly reflect a broader trend in global agricultural machinery engineering. The planter is no longer merely a mechanical implement for placing seeds into the soil. It is becoming a digitally controlled system where not only steel and hydraulics matter, but also electronics, software, sensors, sectional control, and the ability to work with different prescription maps.

For Ukrainian farmers, this type of machinery is especially relevant for farms growing several row crops and seeking to reduce the number of field passes. Flexible row spacing, high working speed, control of each row, and the possibility of precise fertilizer application make the Tempo T not only a planting tool, but also an instrument for managing the starting conditions of crop development.

In summary, the new Tempo T and FH 2200 show that the future of precision planting is moving toward versatility, electronic control, and higher productivity without losing agronomic accuracy. For a modern farm, this is exactly the balance that determines competitiveness in the field: fast, accurate, with lower input losses and better control of every working stage.
