T7 Methane Power LNG tractor from New Holland

The T7 Methane Power LNG tractor from New Holland has received special recognition in the TIME Best Inventions 2023 list: 200 Innovations That Change Our Lives". The Ukrainian representative office of the manufacturer shared this exciting news.

This year has become another bright page in the history of TIME's Best Inventions, where for more than 20 years the editors of this influential publication have been identifying the most significant new products and ideas. To compile this year's list, nominations were solicited from TIME editors around the world, as well as online submissions, with a special focus on fast-growing areas such as green energy and sustainability.

This year's TIME list featured 200 of the best innovative inventions, and among them, 50 other products were highlighted, including the T7 Methane Power LNG. These products are making significant changes in the way we live, work and think. T7 Methane Power LNG is a symbol of New Holland's ongoing commitment to sustainable agriculture and marks the pinnacle of the company's clean energy achievements.

Agriculture has great potential to produce its own energy, but this potential is still being utilized to a limited extent. For example, methane from recycled biogas can be used to power agricultural machinery, which can be transported in the form of compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG).

This innovative solution has already been recognized by the DLG (German Agricultural Society), which announced the winners of the Innovation Awards Agritechnica 2023.

However, LNG has a lower volumetric energy density than diesel, which limits the operating time of the respective vehicles. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) looks much more attractive because it is more efficient and is already successfully used in long-distance freight transportation. However, there are problems with using LNG in agriculture, such as limited storage space and evaporation.

New Holland has solved these problems by introducing the T7.270 LNG gas tractor with double-walled LNG containers. This allows the containers to be adapted to the typical dimensions of the tractor and creates a tank capacity of 200 kg for the T7.270 LNG.

In addition, New Holland has solved the problem of gas evaporation by using the Cryo-Cooler, a cooler that keeps methane in a liquid state at extremely low temperatures, less than minus 162°C. This cooler runs on very little energy, which can be obtained from a battery charged by an external power source or an integrated IC generator. The generator is driven by evaporated gas, allowing the cooling system to operate autonomously.

With the introduction of LNG technology in the T7.270 Methane Power, New Holland has for the first time offered agriculture a drive option that meets the requirements of this industry. This allows the use of self-produced biogas (bio-LNG) as a vehicle fuel in CO2-neutral production cycles.

With these innovations, New Holland is taking an important step toward sustainable agriculture and the efficient use of biogas, which helps reduce CO2 emissions and improves the industry's environmental performance.
