2. Key Advantages
Burr-free, stress-free holes – no mechanical load: critical for aerospace and energy parts.
Consistent repeatability – CNC control ensures micron-level accuracy from part to part.
Material versatility – removes copper or hard carbides equally fast; job setup takes minutes.
Tool cost savings – no cutters or drills, eliminating re-sharpening and carbide-tool purchases.
Digital-shop integration – accepts G-code via Ethernet or USB and connects easily to MES / ERP.
3. Application Areas
Mold & die making – cooling channels of complex geometry.
Aero-engines – turbine blades with hundreds of micro-cooling holes.
Medical implants – razor-clean edges and minimal thermal deformation.
Electronics – drilling hard-metal PCBs and copper busbars.
Tooling & jigs – precise templates and guides where micro-cracks are unacceptable.

5. EDM Drilling in Brief
EDM drilling relies on a controlled spark discharge between the tubular electrode (typically brass or Cu-W) and the workpiece, both submerged in dielectric fluid (kerosene or special mineral oil). The discharge locally melts and ejects metal, forming a cavity, while the dielectric cools the zone and flushes debris.
Specific Material Removal Formula
Q=(I⋅t)/(ρ⋅η)
where
I – discharge current, t – pulse duration, ρ – material density, η – process efficiency.
Micro-second pulses create virtually no heat-affected zone; hole accuracy is governed by electrode diameter and wear. Modern CNC machines auto-compensate electrode wear along length and face, holding tolerance within ±2–3 µm.
Safety & Ecology
A sealed tank with filtration minimizes fumes, meeting ISO 14001. Dielectric fluid lasts up to 12 months with regular regeneration.
