Seederal: The first long-lasting electric tractor for carbon-free farming
Seederal, a startup located in the ENSTARTUPS incubator, is developing a breakthrough technology. Its electric tractor is aimed at supporting the energy transition in agriculture. An innovative project supported by investors and eagerly awaited by farmers.
Arthur Rivoal, a graduate of Centrale Paris, imagined a Tesla for agriculture during his student years. Sensitive to environmental issues, he started the project during his gap year in the banking sector in Brest when he wondered why electric tractors were not working in France. The project took shape during his final year of studies, in entrepreneurship, and then became a reality at the ENSTA Bretagne incubator.
"I found out about ENSTARTUPS through my roommate, who was himself placed at the ENSTA Bretagne incubator with his startup UMOJA. He introduced me to the ENSTA Bretagne team. I enjoyed discovering the technical world and getting support from teachers and students during my educational projects," says Arthur.
Very early on, Arthur realized that he could not realize this ambitious project on his own. Entrepreneur Antoine Venet became his partner through the HEC entrepreneurial network. After a successful first fundraising operation, the team expanded significantly.
"We have already raised more than a million euros with the help of the Breton investment funds Epopée Gestion, Breizh Up and Business Angels."
Disruptive technology
The stakes are high. A breakthrough technology is involved. The tractor has been completely redesigned to ensure optimal use: to offer farmers a vehicle capable of performing the same types of work as standard tractors on the market, with a significant energy-efficient range (working day).
Although the initial cost of the tractor will be 30-50% higher than that of conventional models on the market, the investment will be quite profitable, and in 7 years it will justify the difference in price with traditional tractors. From an environmental point of view, the tractor's CO2 emissions will be 90% less than conventional models. The Seederal tractor will be able to run for 12 hours on a single charge. The engine is planned to have a power of 160 hp.
The feedback from farmers is very encouraging. In order to focus on the user, a group was created to provide feedback at various stages of the project development and consider the choice.
In the meantime, we invite you to browse the popular sections of our website:
"Our main challenges in the coming months are hiring highly qualified technical profiles and the next stage of fundraising. We currently have approximately 10 employees in the structure and we plan to triple our workforce by the end of 2023. To do this, we need to successfully complete the next fundraising operation."
The project is developing rapidly. In the middle of 2023, Seederal already had its first prototype, and the first production tractor is scheduled for 2025. The revolution is coming!
