Kinze Falcon SF700 Review: A New Approach to Strip-Till

Kinze Manufacturing and Yetter Manufacturing have introduced the Falcon SF700, a wide strip-till implement designed for shallow, targeted soil preparation. The new machine combines the folding toolbar of the Kinze 5700 with Yetter 2984 Strip Freshener CC row units. Its central engineering concept is to prepare strips with the same row count, working width and row spacing as the farm’s planter.

The Falcon SF700 was officially unveiled on June 23, 2026, during Kinze Product Innovation Day in Williamsburg, Iowa. Kinze presents it as a model year 2027 product. However, the machine must be classified correctly: the Falcon SF700 is neither a planter nor a conventional deep strip-till cultivator. It is an implement for shallow preparation or renovation of planting strips.

Combining Kinze and Yetter Technologies

The Falcon SF700 is built around the proven three-section front-fold toolbar used on the Kinze 5700. The new implement inherits the platform’s front-mounted wheels, weight-transfer system, high transport clearance, articulating clevis hitch and ability to follow uneven terrain.

Soil preparation is performed by Yetter 2984 Strip Freshener CC row units. Their purpose is to remove crop residue from the future seed row, cultivate the upper soil layer and form a level strip ready for the planter. Most of the inter-row area remains undisturbed and covered with residue.

The Falcon SF700 therefore occupies a position between conventional full-width tillage and no-till planting. Mechanical disturbance is concentrated only in the zones where the seed rows will subsequently be placed.

How the Falcon SF700 Works

The Yetter 2984 Strip Freshener CC row unit incorporates a floating row cleaner, disc working elements, gauge wheels and a heavy-duty rolling basket. According to Yetter, each unit creates a seedbed approximately 10 inches, or 25.4 cm, wide.

At the beginning of the process, the row cleaner moves crop residue away from the future planting strip. Yetter’s operating instructions specifically state that this component should clear residue without engaging the soil. Angled working discs then loosen and mix the upper soil layer. Finally, the rolling basket conditions and levels the strip and, when the appropriate fertilizer equipment is installed, helps incorporate the applied nutrients.

Parallel linkage allows each row unit to follow field contours independently. The pneumatic system regulates row-unit downforce, row-cleaner position and rolling-basket pressure. The operator can make the principal pressure adjustments from inside the tractor cab.

Working depth is adjusted mechanically in 1/4-inch increments, equivalent to approximately 6.4 mm. However, the Yetter quick-start guide warns that the scale on the unit is only a reference. The actual operating depth must be physically checked in the finished strip.

Kinze does not currently specify the minimum tractor power requirement, required hydraulic capacity or exact transport width of each version on the model’s official product page. These parameters must be calculated separately according to the implement configuration, soil type, terrain, operating depth and whether the fertilizer tank will be used at full capacity.

Six Configurations for Different Planting Systems

The Falcon SF700 is available in six factory configurations. These include the 30-inch row spacing traditionally used in North America as well as narrower 20- and 22-inch systems.

Matching the planter and strip-till implement configurations is essential. When their working width, row count and row spacing are identical, the planter can follow the Falcon SF700’s previous path more accurately during the next field operation.

There is an important consideration for Ukrainian farms: the current range does not include a 70 cm row-spacing configuration, which is widely used in Ukraine for maize and sunflower planting. The closest factory option is 30 inches, or 76.2 cm. Compatibility with the farm’s existing planter should therefore be confirmed before an investment decision is made.

Why Use a Planter-Style Toolbar for Strip-Till?

Accurately returning the planter to a previously prepared strip is one of the essential conditions for effective strip-till. If the opener moves away from the cultivated zone and enters undisturbed soil, some of the technology’s benefits can be lost. Seedbed structure, soil temperature, nutrient availability and seed-placement consistency may all change.

The Falcon SF700 follows the configuration logic of a planter. Its toolbar can be matched by row count, operating width and spacing, while a universal GPS mount allows a guidance receiver to be installed directly on the implement. This helps record the position of the prepared strips more accurately.

However, a GPS mounting point alone does not guarantee that the planting pass will automatically coincide with the strips. High-accuracy operation requires RTK correction, properly calibrated tractor steering and, on slopes or with particularly wide implements, active implement guidance.

The toolbar provides a total of 30° of wing flex. Together with the weight-transfer system and parallel-linkage row units, this should help maintain a more consistent working depth across the full width of the machine on rolling terrain.

Speeds of Up to 16 km/h and Shallow Tillage

The Falcon SF700 operates at 6–10 mph, or approximately 9.7–16.1 km/h. Actual field speed will depend on soil moisture and density, residue levels, terrain, operating depth and the required quality of strip preparation.

The working-depth range of 3.8–10.2 cm confirms that the Falcon SF700 is a shallow strip-till implement. It prepares the upper portion of the seedbed but is not designed to fracture a deeply compacted soil horizon. If field diagnostics reveal a plough pan or other compaction below the Falcon SF700’s operating range, a separate deep-loosening operation may still be required.

At the same time, the absence of a deep-running shank reduces draft requirements compared with deep strip-till equipment. This supports higher operating speeds and limits the amount of soil displaced, although actual fuel consumption will depend on field conditions and the selected machine configuration.

Fertilizer Application in the Same Pass

The Falcon SF700 can be equipped with an optional 1,500-US-gallon liquid fertilizer capacity, equivalent to approximately 5,678 litres. Combining strip preparation with targeted nutrient application can reduce the number of field passes and place fertilizer closer to the future crop row.

The underlying Yetter 2984 row-unit design supports optional equipment for both liquid and dry fertilizer. However, Kinze’s official Falcon SF700 page currently lists an onboard capacity only for liquid fertilizer. The availability of a dry-fertilizer system, its metering method and fertilizer placement depth should therefore be confirmed separately.

Potential Agronomic and Economic Benefits

Shallow strip-till makes it possible to create a loosened and level planting zone while leaving most of the field surface protected by crop residue. This approach may reduce the risk of wind and water erosion, limit unproductive moisture evaporation and decrease the proportion of soil subjected to mechanical disturbance.

A cleared strip generally warms more quickly in spring than soil beneath a continuous layer of residue. At the same time, the undisturbed inter-row zones continue to protect the soil. With accurate fertilizer placement, nutrients can be concentrated in a zone that will be readily accessible to the developing root system.

Kinze claims that shallow strip-till can reduce calculated tillage costs by up to 40%. However, the product page does not provide the complete methodology behind this calculation. The figure should therefore be regarded as a potential result under a particular operating scenario rather than as a universally guaranteed saving.

Similarly, strip-till can create conditions for more uniform emergence and improved yield potential, but the final outcome will depend on soil conditions, weather, crop rotation, guidance accuracy, implement setup and the farm’s overall crop-nutrition strategy.

The Kinze Falcon SF700 demonstrates an effort to transfer the precision and familiar configuration logic of a modern planter into strip-till operations. Combining the Kinze 5700 toolbar with Yetter 2984 Strip Freshener CC row units provides high operating speeds, terrain-following capability, in-cab adjustment of the principal working elements and optional targeted application of liquid fertilizer.

The machine’s strongest feature is the ability to match a planter by row count, spacing and working width. Nevertheless, the Falcon SF700 remains a specialised shallow strip-till implement. It does not replace deep soil loosening, while its factory row spacings require careful compatibility checks for planting systems commonly used in Ukraine.

The practical value of the Falcon SF700 will therefore depend not only on the machine’s specifications but also on how precisely a farm can integrate it into a coordinated system of guidance, soil preparation, nutrient placement and planting.
