LEMKEN Karat Cultivator Gets Intelligent System with Artificial Intelligence
German agricultural machinery manufacturer LEMKEN has taken a significant step toward autonomous farming by introducing the innovative iQblue smart implement system for the Karat cultivator in September 2025
Revolution in Soil Cultivation
Is the cultivator getting blocked? What is the condition of the tines? Is the roller still turning? These questions that operators face daily can now receive automatic answers thanks to LEMKEN's new automation system.
The iQblue smart implement system was developed jointly with Dutch software specialist Track32 and represents a comprehensive solution on the path to fully automated and autonomous tillage.
Three Modules in One System
The innovation of the solution lies in the integration of three automated systems:
1. Flow Control Module (iQblue flow control)
The system monitors the flow of material through the tine section in real time. Intelligent image evaluation detects critical accumulations of material, such as clumps of straw or soil, through targeted "region of interest" analysis even before disruptions occur in the work process. This technology allows the system to focus on the most critical zones.
2. Slippage Control System (iQblue slippage control)
Protected speed sensors continuously measure roller slippage. If there is a risk of impaired reconsolidation, the system automatically adjusts ground speed without any driver intervention. This ensures optimal cultivation quality even on fields with varying soil conditions.
3. Tool Monitoring System (iQblue tool monitoring)
This module has already won the silver DLG Innovation Award. A camera with AI-supported image analysis automatically assesses the condition of the cultivator shares at the headland without any manual checks. The system timely signals the need for worn parts replacement.
Benefits for Farms
Using the iQblue smart implement system provides numerous advantages:
- Reduced operator strain – early detection of disruptions significantly reduces driver fatigue
- Increased efficiency – minimized interruptions through anticipatory control
- Improved cultivation quality – consistent reconsolidation is maintained even in variable soil conditions
- Modular design – the system can be adapted to existing machinery
- Versatility – ideal solution for operations with limited trained personnel
All information is collated on a central display on the ISOBUS terminal. On autonomous units, data is visualized via a Human Machine Interface (HMI), ensuring that the operator always has a full overview of the tillage process.
From Reactive to Proactive Approach
Previous tillage solutions tended to be reactive: they provided information about problems only after they occurred or required regular manual checks. The iQblue smart implement system closes this gap and creates the conditions for fully autonomous work processes in the field.
This is the result of a close partnership between LEMKEN's agricultural technology expertise and Track32's AI and image processing software development capabilities.
