Last week's unfavorable weather conditions, such as heavy rainfall, squalls and thunderstorms, did not deter the hard work of Sumy region farmers. According to the data provided by the Department of Agricultural Development of the Sumy Regional State Administration, more than 150 thousand hectares of land have been threshed, which is more than 70% of the area under early grain and leguminous crops.
An important indicator of productivity is the amount of grain harvested from the new crop, which amounted to 798 thousand tons. This result demonstrates the high efficiency of agricultural production in Sumy region. The average yield amounted to 52.3 centners per hectare, which is 2.0 centners more than in the previous year. This indicates that despite the difficulties, farmers were able to ensure high-quality cultivation and care of their crops.
In particular, wheat was sown on an area of 119 thousand hectares, and the harvest from these fields amounted to 653 thousand tons. The wheat yield increased to 54.8 centners per hectare, which is an impressive figure and 2.5 centners more than last year. Similar achievements were made in barley cultivation. The area under this crop totals 18 thousand hectares, and the total gross output is 82 thousand tons. Barley yields are also impressive, at 44.7 centners per hectare, which is 11.3 centners more than a year ago.
Peas are an important addition to agricultural production in Sumy region. From an area of 5,000 hectares, 15,000 tons of peas were harvested with a yield of 30.4 centners per hectare. This result shows that agricultural specialists and farmers have a deep understanding of the processes of growing various crops and their optimal conditions.
The achievements in rapeseed cultivation are no less impressive. More than 40 thousand hectares of this crop were threshed, and the total harvest amounted to 143 thousand tons. The average yield of rapeseed is 35.8 centners per hectare, which is an important contribution to the overall productivity of the region.
