Harvest 2023: over 33 million tons harvested
04.09.2023

As of the last day of summer, Ukrainian farmers have harvested more than 33 million tons of new crops. This is an impressive figure that emphasizes the importance of the agricultural sector for our country and its role in global agriculture.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, about 29 million 184 thousand tons of this total amount are grain crops, while more than 4 million tons are oilseeds. This demonstrates the versatility and diversity of Ukrainian agriculture.

Grains and pulses were harvested on an area of 6,642 thousand hectares, with an impressive yield of 43.9 centners per hectare. This high productivity was made possible by the dedication and hard work of Ukrainian farmers. As for wheat, it was harvested on an area of 4,688 thousand hectares, yielding 22,142 tons of grain. Wheat remains one of the main crops on Ukrainian fields.

Barley, peas, buckwheat and millet also made a significant contribution to the overall harvest. In particular, high yields of barley and peas resulted in threshing over 1.4 million tons of barley and over 385 thousand tons of peas. Buckwheat and millet, although they have smaller cultivation areas, still make an important contribution to grain production with yields of 14 and 20.4 centners per hectare, respectively.

Harvesting of oilseeds, which are a crucial element of the Ukrainian agricultural sector, also continues. Rapeseed, sunflower and soybeans are grown on a large area, and this is yielding good results. In particular, rapeseed production resulted in the harvest of 3,997 tons of seeds, with a threshed area of 1,393 thousand hectares. In the case of sunflower, 49.4 thousand tons of seeds were harvested on an area of 25.6 thousand hectares. Soybeans, which are increasingly looking like a promising crop for Ukrainian farmers, yielded 30.6 thousand tons with an impressive yield of 27.3 centners per hectare.

It is also important to note that farmers from 17 regions have already completed rapeseed harvesting, and Odesa region has the largest harvest of this crop with 3.2 million tons. In addition, Khmelnytsky region is in the lead, demonstrating the highest yield of grain and legumes, which is 64.5 centners per hectare.

Farmers from different regions of Ukraine are actively harvesting buckwheat and millet. Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovs'k, Donetsk, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Cherkasy and Chernihiv regions are the places where these valuable crops are actively grown. In addition, Odesa, Ternopil, and Kherson regions are also actively engaged in millet cultivation.
