Electric Tractors Reduce Operating Costs

In modern agriculture, the efficiency of equipment use is a key factor in reducing costs and increasing productivity. In the context of high fuel costs and environmental challenges, electric tractors are becoming increasingly relevant. Swedish researchers from the University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala conducted a study showing the significant advantages of using lightweight autonomous electric tractors compared to diesel machines. Let’s explore the key aspects of this technology and its impact on the economy of agricultural enterprises.

Reducing Operating Costs: The Economic Effect of Electric Tractors

The study showed that the use of electric tractors can reduce operating costs by 33% compared to traditional diesel tractors. This was made possible by several factors:

  1. Lower maintenance requirements for electric motors compared to diesel engines.
  2. Reduced fuel costs, as electricity is typically cheaper than diesel fuel.
  3. Tractor autonomy, which saves on operator wages.

For example, on a 200-hectare farm using diesel tractors, total costs per hectare amount to €385. Switching to electric tractors reduces these costs to €258, which is a significant economic achievement.

Environmental Impact: Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions

In addition to the economic benefits, electric tractors have a huge positive impact on the environment. According to the study, the use of electric tractors can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 72%. This is explained by:

  1. The absence of CO2 emissions during the operation of electric motors.
  2. The ability to use renewable energy, further reducing the environmental footprint.

A traditional diesel tractor emits up to 270 kg of CO2 per hectare, while an autonomous electric tractor emits only 77 kg. This means that farmers can significantly reduce their climate impact while conserving resources.

Lower Soil Compaction: Increased Yields and Reduced Costs

One of the main problems with heavy agricultural machinery is soil compaction, which leads to reduced yields. Electric tractors are lighter (4 tons, of which 1 ton is the battery), significantly reducing their impact on the soil. In comparison, traditional diesel tractors weigh about 10.8 tons. As a result, electric tractors contribute to:

  1. Improved soil permeability and aeration.
  2. Reduced fuel costs, as lighter equipment requires less energy to move across fields.

According to scientists, soil compaction accounts for up to 20% of a farm's total costs. Therefore, using electric tractors not only reduces expenses but also improves agronomic indicators.

Technical Aspects: Autonomy and Efficiency

The electric tractors discussed are not only environmentally friendly and economical but also autonomous. This means that a farmer can program the machines to perform tasks without constant operator control. Such autonomy allows for more efficient use of work hours and increases labor productivity.

Autonomous tractors can work around the clock without needing refueling or operator shifts, significantly increasing productivity on large areas.

Agricultural Spare Parts Production in Ukraine

LLC Bas-Agro manufactures spare parts for agricultural machinery. We ship spare parts to agricultural equipment in Poltava, Dnipro, Kremenchuk, Khmelnytskyi, Lviv, and other cities of Ukraine. This allows Ukrainian farmers to quickly receive necessary parts and keep their equipment in working condition.

Electric tractors are a promising technology that allows for significantly reducing equipment operating costs, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and lessening the negative impact on soil. Given these advantages, their implementation is an important step towards sustainable agricultural development. At the same time, thanks to companies like LLC Bas-Agro, farmers can be confident in the availability of spare parts for a wide range of agricultural machinery.
