Dmytro Komarov revealed the price of Ukrainian bread.
In a new episode of the research project "The World Inside Out. Ukraine", Dmytro Komarov revealed the true cost of Ukrainian bread. As part of the project, the team traveled to Mykolaiv region to see for themselves how farmers in the liberated territories have to fight for the harvest.
The current reality of Ukrainian farmers was highlighted by the head of one of the farms that is part of the JV PAEK group of companies, Yuriy Kotyk.
For 236 days, the company was under occupation, most of the equipment was looted and destroyed, buildings and warehouses were destroyed, and the land was contaminated with mines. Thanks to the patriotism of the company's farmers, the team, and their dedication to their work and their native land, they managed to sow the fields in 2023. However, the cost of bread on the liberated land was too high.
It was only thanks to the personal efforts of Yuriy Kotyk, who took part in the demining of the fields, that numerous threats to life were avoided.
"This is Yuriy Kotyk, who miraculously survived and forever remembered what it was like to explode in your own tractor when you hit an anti-tank mine," says Dmytro Komarov in his report.
"You are still breathing, but there is no way to get out. Minutes count - life or death, when you can't do anything on your own. The guys who helped me get out were all around me. Dust, glass in my mouth. I tried to move my legs and arms. My right arm is out of control, it's jammed. The manipulator flipped over, and the cabin was blocked by me," Yuriy Kotyk shares his story.
Over the course of a year, Yuriy discovered more than 200 anti-tank mines, and he even stopped counting other smaller explosive devices.
Today, most of the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions are deadly for farmers - almost 8,000 square kilometers, which is roughly equal to the area of Chernivtsi region. This land is becoming unusable for agriculture, and both farmers and the SES are at risk every day when clearing mines.
