Restoration of Combine Harvester Pulleys by Laser Cladding
A worn mounting bore in a combine harvester pulley does not always mean that the expensive part must be replaced. Bas-Agro Group LLC provides professional restoration of agricultural machinery pulleys using laser cladding followed by precision turning to the required final size.
During long-term operation of a combine harvester, the mounting surface of the pulley’s central bore gradually wears out. As a result, excessive play, misalignment, vibration, uneven drive operation, and accelerated wear of the shaft, bearings, and adjoining components may occur. Continued operation of such an assembly increases the risk of a serious machinery breakdown during the harvesting season.
How Pulley Restoration Is Performed
First, our specialists inspect the condition of the part, measure the actual wear, and determine the required restoration volume. After surface preparation, a layer of metal is applied to the central mounting bore by laser cladding.
This technology makes it possible to restore the worn area locally while minimizing the thermal impact on the base metal of the pulley. The material is applied precisely where an allowance is required for subsequent machining.
After cladding, the pulley is mounted on a lathe. The mounting bore is then machined to the specified final size while maintaining the required geometry, concentricity, and fitting accuracy.
An example of the laser cladding process and subsequent machining of a large combine harvester pulley can be seen in our video: https://youtube.com/shorts/W3E6sAgRIBo
Why Restoration Can Be More Cost-Effective Than Buying a New Pulley
Restoring the mounting bore allows the original part to be retained and helps reduce agricultural machinery repair costs. This is especially important for large or rare combine harvester pulleys that are difficult to find in stock or may require a long waiting period when ordered.
Benefits of restoration include:
- lower cost compared with purchasing a new pulley;
- restoration of the precise mounting size;
- reduction of play and vibration;
- possibility of repairing large-sized components;
- extended service life of the assembly;
- reduced combine harvester downtime.
Restoration of Agricultural Machinery Components
Bas-Agro Group LLC performs laser cladding and mechanical machining of parts for combine harvesters, tractors, and other agricultural machinery. We restore mounting surfaces of pulleys, shafts, bushings, and other components that have lost their original dimensions due to wear.
The company also manufactures spare parts based on a customer’s sample or drawing and supplies ready-made agricultural machinery parts from stock.
To assess whether restoration is possible, please provide information about the part, its dimensions, and the nature of the damage, or send the pulley to our specialists for inspection.
