Comparison of the Capello Quasar header and the Fantini L04 header
Today we are going to compare two headers, the Capello Quasar and the Fantini L04, to determine their main differences and advantages.
The header is an important part of the combine that cuts and feeds the crop to the tilt chamber. The quality of the header affects the combine's performance, fuel consumption, and grain and straw preservation. Therefore, choosing a header is a very important decision for an agricultural producer.
Drive: One of the key differences is the type of drive. The Capello Quasar uses a side chain drive, which includes two gearboxes and a PTO shaft. The Fantini L04, on the other hand, has a chain drive that works on gears, but with better durability.
Dividers: In the Fantini L04, the cutterbar is reinforced with metal parts and has many joints, which ensures high strength and durability. The Capello Quasar has less metal reinforcement and more plastic components.
Weight: The Capello Quasar is heavier than the Fantini L04, which can affect fuel consumption and wear.
Protection: The Fantini L04 is equipped with more effective protective guards that prevent wear and breakage of plastic components. The Capello Quasar header does not have this level of protection.
Hydraulic lift: The Fantini L04 has a hydraulic lift that makes it easy to raise and lower the header. The Capello Quasar does not have this mechanism, which may result in the need to use additional support stands.
Disabling the destroyer: The Fantini L04 has a cutterbar disconnect system on each windrow, allowing the operator to quickly and conveniently disable this function when needed. The Capello Quasar does not have such a mechanism.
Chain protection: The Fantini L04 has a chain guard that prevents the chains from sagging and breaking. The Capello Quasar does not have this protection.
Friction clutches: The friction clutches of the Capello Quasar are located on the outside and are exposed to dust and dirt, which can accelerate their wear. On the Fantini L04, they are located inside the gearbox and are better protected from aggressive environments.
Adapter: The adapter of the Capello Quasar header is non-adjustable, while the adapter in the Fantini L04 header is adjustable, making it easier to work on different crops.

Advantages and disadvantages of the Capello Quasar header
Advantages:
- The side drive of the chain header allows you to reduce the working width and maintain the geometry of the rows.
- Hollow metal-reinforced dividers are heavy and stable on the soil.
- The hydraulic lift allows you to raise and lower the header without the use of additional devices.
- Spare parts for Capello can be bought in Ukraine.
Disadvantages:
- A chain reaper has more friction and noise than a gear reaper, and also requires more frequent chain replacement and adjustment.
- Plastic gears are less durable and wear-resistant than metal gears, and also do not tolerate high temperatures.
- The lack of protective covers for the chopper leads to the fact that part of the stalk is not chopped and remains on the field.
- The non-adjustable adapter limits the ability to adjust the angle of the header depending on the working conditions.
- Open friction couplings quickly become contaminated with dust and grease, which leads to wear and tear and the need for frequent lubrication.
- The mechanical disconnection of the chopper at the rear of the header is not convenient and requires additional actions from the operator.
Advantages and disadvantages of the Fantini L04 harvester
Advantages:
- A gear reaper has less friction and noise than a chain reaper, as well as greater reliability and durability.
- Metal gears have high strength and wear resistance, and also tolerate high temperatures.
- The presence of protective covers for the chopper ensures complete shredding of the stalk and its spreading across the field.
- An adjustable adapter allows you to change the angle of the header depending on the working conditions and type of crop.
- Spare parts for Fantini are available in Ukraine.
- Closed friction clutches do not require lubrication and are not contaminated with dust and grease, as they are located in the gearbox with oil.
- The mechanical disconnection of the chopper on each header turn is convenient and fast, as it is performed with a single movement of the plate.
Disadvantages:
- Plastic dividers are less massive and stable than metal-reinforced hollow ones, and they also do not withstand impacts from stones and other obstacles.
- The mechanical lift requires the use of additional devices to raise and lower the header, and may not keep the header at the desired level over time
- Mechanical control of the header plate position sensors is less accurate and convenient than hydraulic control, and also requires additional actions from the operator.
Recommendations
Based on the comparison of the Capello Quasar header and the Fantini L04 header, the following conclusions can be drawn:
- The Capello Quasar header is suitable for working on flat and clean fields where there are no stones or other obstacles that can damage the plastic gears or chains. It also requires more attention and maintenance from the operator, as it has many components that need to be adjusted, lubricated or replaced. The Capello Quasar header has the advantage of stable dividers and a convenient lift.
- The Fantini L04 is suitable for working on uneven and dirty fields where there are stones and other obstacles that can damage the dividers or chopper. It also requires less attention and maintenance from the operator, as it has fewer components that need to be adjusted, lubricated or replaced. The Fantini L04 has the advantage of reliable gears and chains, chopper protection and adjustable adapter.
In general, the Fantini L04 wins in most parameters, such as reliability, ease of use and protection against breakdowns and wear. However, the choice between these two models depends on your task and individual agricultural needs. Thus, when choosing a corn header, you should take into account the working conditions, type of crop, combine power, budget and personal preferences. Both headers have their own strengths and weaknesses, so each buyer should make their own choice based on their needs and expectations.
