In 2024, the downward trend in imports of agricultural machinery to Ukraine is expected to continue, although the pace of this process should slow down. Against this backdrop, as well as other negative factors, the used machinery market is expected to grow, driven not only by increased imports but also by more active turnover in the domestic market. Demand for spare parts and the restoration and refurbishment of agricultural machinery available on farms is also expected to increase. Please note that Bas-Agro Group LLC offers spare parts for agricultural machinery of its own production, manufactured at its own production facilities in Cherkasy.
According to the press service of the National Research Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics", in 2023 there was a tendency to reduce the volume of agricultural machinery imports to Ukraine, especially the segments of tractors, combine harvesters and sowing equipment were hit hard. Yaroslav Navrotskyi, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute, pointed out the critical situation with tractor imports, in particular, imports of tractors with an engine power of 37-75 kW decreased from 5566 units in 2021 to 1969 units in 2022, and then to 503 units in 2023, which is a decrease of 74.4%. In the category of tractors with an engine power of 75-130 kW, the decline in imports also slowed down: from 1865 units in 2022 to 1453 units in 2023, a decrease of 22.1%. Imports of the most powerful tractors - with an engine over 130 kW - decreased by 6.3%, from 1253 units in 2022 to 1174 units in 2023.
As for combine harvesters, their imports decreased by 9.4%, from 2104 units in 2022 to 1906 units in 2023. Imports of sowing equipment also continued to decline, from 4465 units in 2022 to 2749 units in 2023, a decrease of 38.4%. After the growth of imports of plows in 2022 to 2779 units, in 2023 they almost halved to 1332 units. Imports of disk harrows and mowers remained almost at the level of the previous year, with a slight decrease.
Given that some agricultural machinery enterprises have been destroyed, damaged or are under occupation, and the physical volume of machinery imports for agricultural enterprises is declining, the situation with the renewal of the machinery fleet is deteriorating significantly. The use of worn-out agricultural machinery and increased costs for its maintenance and repair will lead to an increase in the cost of agricultural production and a significant decrease in the efficiency of agricultural production, which, according to Navrotsky, can lead to significant crop losses.
