A new material flow control system for Case IH Axial-Flow combines was presented at Agritechnica 2023, which received a silver medal at the Agritechnica Innovation Awards, according to DLG - the German Agricultural Society. The awards are judged by an independent international panel of agricultural experts, and silver medals are awarded to innovative and practical developments that have brought significant improvements in productivity, quality, functionality, safety, environmental impact and energy consumption.
Unlike solutions that change machine parameters once the crop is in the combine, Case IH Advanced Feedrate Control uses a predictive radar system to scan and estimate crop density before it enters the combine, rather than during the threshing process. The information generated by the four radar units on the header, which measure the total mass of the plants from the ground upwards to provide a very accurate estimate of crop density, is used to automatically adjust key parameters such as forward speed for the volume of crop the machine is about to take in. As a result, the combine's travel speed and engine load are kept as close to the desired level as possible, maximizing production without the risk of clogging. Additionally, experienced operators can get the most out of their machine, while less experienced users can rest assured that they can use the combine without the risk of it clogging.
List of spare parts for the Case header:
- Tension sprocket without bearing 47842144 Compatible with Case.
- Right hand bar 84977677 Case.
- Cape chain drive sprocket Z-11 84977235 Compatible with Case.
- Divider tip 84446224 Compatible with Case.
- Right toe shoe 84528829 Case.
With the ability to operate at higher ground speeds than would otherwise be possible, Advanced Feedrate Control has the potential to increase productivity by up to 20% compared to a combine equipped with a traditional reactive automatic feed control system. More consistent processing speed increases yields, reduces losses and improves grain quality, while the reduced risk of clogging increases safety and reduces inconvenience and lost time. The system is installed on the VariCut header, which is combined with the Axial-Flow 7160 combine harvester presented at Agritechnica 2023. In addition to Advanced Feedrate Control, the new models are equipped with a fully high-performance AFS Harvest Command connection.
Case IH is the choice of professionals. For more than 180 years, this brand has been successfully utilizing its experience and knowledge in the agricultural industry. A huge range of tractors, combines and balers, as well as a worldwide network of professional dealers, guarantee customers an unrivaled level of service and performance that meets the requirements of the 21st century.
"The recognition from the Agritechnica awards jury of the benefits of this development is really reassuring," says Peter Fries, Head of Combine Harvesters, Case IH Europe. "We have been developing a feed control system that is much more predictive than existing systems, and Advanced Feedrate Control is exactly what we need to be able to use the combine safely, regardless of operator experience level, allowing users to maximize production during short weather windows without the risk of overloading."
