Fox Robotics has introduced Hugo RT™ Gen. III - a commercially available field robot

The American company Fox Robotics announced the commercial availability of its new field robot Hugo RT™ Gen. III. This autonomous mobile robot (AMR) is designed for use in agriculture.

Hugo RT™ Gen. III is the third generation of Hugo RT robots developed by Fox Robotics. It is optimized to perform a wide range of tasks in the field, including mechanical weed control, spraying, harvesting, and other operations.

The robot is based on a two-wheeled platform, which allows it to maneuver in orchards, vineyards and other agricultural lands. It is equipped with computer vision systems and sensors for autonomous navigation and task completion.

The introduction of the Hugo RT™ Gen. III comes amid growing demand for autonomous robots in agriculture. According to the latest market review of field and harvesting robots from Future Farming magazine, in 2024, farmers can choose from 60 commercially available models. For example, companies such as Tortuga AgTech and Harvest Automation offer robots for automatic fruit picking and plant processing. These robots can harvest apples, strawberries, lettuce, and other crops, as well as perform weed removal.

These robots are becoming more and more necessary for farmers around the world to solve problems with labor shortages and restrictions on the use of plant protection products. They help to increase the efficiency, quality and uniformity of the crop.

How does the AMR Hugo RT Gen. III TECHNOLOGY

AMR Hugo RT Gen. III is an autonomous mobile robot developed by Fox Robotics for berry logistics. It is designed to be used in fields and greenhouses to assist harvesting teams.

The main functions of the Hugo RT Gen. III ARE:

  • - Delivery of empty harvest boxes to berry picking locations;
    - Collecting harvested berries, weighing and transporting them to mobile collection points;
    - Autonomous navigation in fields and greenhouses, recognizing people, roads and obstacles using artificial intelligence.

The robot is equipped with two safety bumpers and emergency stop buttons. Its maximum payload is 200 kg and towing capacity is 500 kg. Hugo RT Gen. III has a replaceable table, a weighing table, passive suspension, and two removable rechargeable batteries.

The robot is controlled via a web interface accessible from any smartphone or tablet. It allows farmers to plan and control the work of the Hugo RT Gen. III in the fields.

The appearance of Hugo RT Gen. III was made possible by Fox Robotics' collaboration with the government agencies Defra and Innovate UK, which provided a £1 million grant for innovation. It demonstrates the growing interest in the use of autonomous robots in agriculture to improve efficiency and productivity.
